Here at FN we are all about the Freelancer, bringing you advice, news and general chit chat that hopefully you will find useful or at least amusing. The modern day freelancer is a busy soul having to contend with new online challenges and growing daily competition, also having the ability to adapt to constant client demands, but who said it would be easy?
Freelancing has without doubt become more popular over the past few years, people taking the choice to go it alone, aware that they can provide a better service to a customer than a large company, be more flexible when it comes to supplying services into projects and also be a more cost effective option.
The attractions of becoming a freelancer are high, becoming your own boss, freedom to work from whatever location you wish (beach, coffee shop or back seat of your car) and picking your own hours of work. But it’s not all plain sailing on the ship of freelance. Did we mention long hours (including dark ones), clients that are reluctant to pay on time (show me one that does), oh and also lets not forget keeping on top of your bookkeeping and staying inline with the overlords at HMRC.
The definition of a successful freelancer is a person who is willing to put in the effort to reap the obvious freelance rewards. Someone who is going to keep pushing forward and not curl up in a comfort zone. Value their clients like gold itself and recognise that sometimes, you know, my way isn’t the best – i’ll change.
Our stories and news items cover all areas of freelancing, but we also like to cover business areas and stories that cross over into freelancing or have an impact. We discuss everything from the latest tax issues that affect a freelancer through to business news and views. We have also been know to put together handy hints and tips!
As well as our blogs and news items you will also find a number of freelancer resources, including information on the dreaded IR35 around the website. If you are in need of an accountant, check out our accountant page or if it’s useful freelancer links you are after, take a peek at the freelancer resources page. If you have a resource link that you feel is beneficial to the freelancing community, drop us a line for inclusion.
Do you have a business or service that a freelancer would find helpful? We are all about getting the spotlight on anything that can assist the freelance life. There are lots of services out there (especially online) that can really help, but sometimes they are hidden away. Tell the world about your product, service or community.
Even if the project isn’t off the ground yet but you are looking to get your idea and plans out into the public domain, we will happily tell your story as long as it’s relevant to the freelance world! Drop us a line for a chat and get featured on our website.
